"Inspiration does exist, but it must find you working." -- Pablo Picasso

This one was also in our recently published list of entrepreneurship motivational quotes, but it’s such good advice that we needed to include it again.

The moments of inspiration that lead to great ideas can produce billion-dollar opportunities. The thing is, those moments of inspiration will bounce right off you if you’re not working when they hit.

To make sure you’re ready for greatness to find you, you need to stay busy with productive work!

"A winner is a dreamer who never gives up." -- Nelson Mandela motivational quotes

There is this myth that turning your dreams into realities takes some kind of big break or other major events that are attained via luck. But that’s not true.

Mandela points out that all it takes to realize your dreams is a lot of persistence.

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." -- Micheal Jordan

The back king is standing while other pieces fall | “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” -- Micheal Jordan

The greatest people in the world are also some of the most frequent failures in the world. Even if you blow huge chances time and time again, that only means you are trying harder than anyone else. And though your tries might end in disaster 99.9% of the time, it’s that other .1% that will change your life.

"Nothing I accept about myself can be used against me to diminish me." -- Audre Lorde motivational quotes

Lorde realized that self-acceptance is not only about positivity. It’s about being real with yourself and being okay with everything you are, including your flaws.

If you already acknowledge you are lacking in a particular area, it won’t hurt nearly as much if someone points it out. Your reaction will be more of a “yes, I’m already aware, and I’m working on it.”

"Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you'll be able to see further." -- Thomas Carlyle

When you’re working on a project, from a case at work to your relationship to general self-improvement, it’s normal that you cannot see the end goal or the light at the end of the tunnel.

Carlyle advises that you keep moving forward anyway. Once you do, you might then be able to see your goal. Rinse and repeat.

"Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway." -- Earl Nightingale

You should never be idle because time is precious. It’s going to tick onward whether or not you’re working on something, so you may as well make it count by working towards your dream.

"The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there." -- Vince Lombardi motivational quotes

a man holding a bike on the top of the moutain | “The man on top of the mountain didn’t fall there.” -- Vince Lombardi

We love this quote because of how simple but profound it is.

Achieving success is hard and, at times, painful. Successful people did not just find themselves there by luck. They had to work hard for it, and you do too.

"I always did something I was a little not ready to do. I think that's how you grow. When there's that moment of, 'Wow, I'm not really sure I can do this,' and you push through those moments, that's when you have a breakthrough." -- Marissa Mayer

This is a very entrepreneurial attitude to take towards motivational quotes. Like we pointed out in many of our articles about the qualities of entrepreneurs, they take risks at every chance they get, even if they will need to figure out the exact logistics after they take the chance.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zones and take risks in your life, even if you think you’re not quite ready.

"No matter who you are, no matter what you do, no matter who your audience is: 30 percent will love it, 30 percent will hate it, and 30 percent won't care. Stick with the people who love you and don't spend a single second on the rest. Life will be better that way." -- James Altucher

Altucher’s math might not add up, but his point is sound: the majority of people usually won’t like your ideas, even if they are fantastic. So no matter how much pushback you get for something you believe in, you should keep trying to make it happen if you are passionate about it. It would be best if you listened to the minority of people who do support you.

"What would you do if you weren't afraid?" -- Sheryl Sandberg

Here’s a useful exercise to try if you ever find yourself unwilling to move forward with an idea or opportunity because you are afraid of failure: imagine if you were not afraid. What would you do in that case?

Now do that. Because life is too short to let petty fears hold us back.

"I don't count my sit-ups; I only start counting when it starts hurting because they're the only ones that count." -- Muhammed Ali motivational quotes

Success should feel uncomfortable. That means you are pushing through the unexplored territory and making a change.

That being said, the uncomfortable feeling caused by success is one of the best discomforts you’ll ever feel.

"The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel." -- Steve Furtick

This is especially applicable to all those of us who use social media more than we should (and honestly, who doesn’t these days).

The aspects of their lives others choose to put on display are the best parts of what they’ve got going on. And most people tend to compare their worst selves to those projections, especially in times of crisis.

If you’re having trouble with motivation because you’re comparing yourself to others, then stop it; you’re working with incomplete information.

"You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there's still going to be somebody who hates peaches." -- Dita Von Teese

You might be the best at what you do. You might have amazing ideas, and you might do everything well. Even so, some people are just not going to approve. It’s not their fault, but they just won’t appreciate what you have to offer.

If that person is someone (or multiple people) you look to for approval, it can be a blow to your confidence. Just remember that it does not mean you’re not a winner.

"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." -- Norman Vincent Peale

Sometimes, your plan might not work out exactly the way you foresaw it, but that’s okay. As long as you made a big move and elevated your own position, you’re better off than when you started.

Staying busy is always better than overthinking or staying idle.

"Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day." -- A.A. Milne motivational quotes

Take your time. Life is not a race, and you can find your path to success one small step at a time if it suits you. There is absolutely no shame in setting out on a journey and stopping to enjoy the diversions along the way.

With these motivational quotes in mind, we are confident you will be able to pick yourself up and start working your way towards happiness and success.
