Self-Improvement: Changing Your Life Starts With Changing Yourself

Living Your Best Life Starts With Self-Improvement

If you want to achieve success and live life to the fullest, you’ll need to make changes in your life. To be able to do that, you’ll need the ability to make those changes happen and handle them well.

And, to be able to do those things, you’ll need to upgrade the current version of you right now. You’ll need to do new and different things if you want new and different results in your life.

The key to these is self-improvement.

1. Self-Improvement Can Open the Doors for New New Opportunities

Growing in skills, knowledge, experiences, wisdom, and as a person can open new doors of opportunities for better lives. However, many of these opportunities aren’t patient enough for those who are slow to act upon them.

2. It Can Also Boost Self-Esteem

The starting point for pursuing your dreams in life is self-confidence. Why?

If you don’t believe in yourself, no one will. It’s all on you.

When you have healthy self-esteem, you won’t be afraid to grab the opportunities that come your way. You also won’t be afraid to create your own opportunities.

Some of the most powerful ways to boost one’s self-confidence are to increase one’s skills, knowledge, and wisdom, and work towards breaking bad habits.

All of these, of course, fall under the umbrella of self-improvement or self-help. It might take you out of your comfort zone, but it’ll be worth it.

3. Lets You Discover a New and Improved You

The quality of our lives is directly related to who we are as a person. Through self-improvement, we become better or upgraded versions of ourselves.

Even if the improvements are just small, say only 1%, those small improvements can compound over time and result in huge self-improvements and ultimately, to a higher quality of life. The road to success and happiness starts with your 1%.

6 Ways to Improve Oneself

1. Laugh More Often

Laughing is one of the best ways to release tension and relieve stress and anxiety. When you’re able to do that, you can learn to handle stressful or pressure-packed situations much better than before.

Laughter also makes you more relatable and approachable, which can result in more personal and professional connections. Because relationships are very important for a beautiful life, having more friends is a very welcome change in anybody’s life.

2. Lower Expectations = Greater Happiness

Happiness is a result of two factors: your expectations and your reality.

  • When your reality exceeds your expectations, happiness is a sure thing.
  • When your expectations exceed your reality, dissatisfaction sets in. You’ll start having negative thoughts and emotions — thinking you’re living a very bad life when the fact is, you’re not.

You can’t do much about reality because you’re only limited to the things you have control over. But with your expectations, you can do something about it.

If you want to become a much happier person, learn to lower your expectations. That way, your reality can start to become a happier one even without much change.

3. Look for Daily Challenges

The single biggest thing that keeps people from reaching their potential and living joy-filled and satisfying lives is fear. And two of the most common types of fear that tend to control people’s lives are the fear of failure and the fear of rejection.

The stronger the hold fear has on your life, the less confident you’ll be in trying out new things that can really change your life for the better.

If you want to weaken fear’s grip on your life, you can do something about it. Try doing something challenging every day.

It doesn’t have to be very challenging. I highly recommend starting with the least challenging but nevertheless, still challenging things.

These can include talking to a stranger on the bus or even asking for an attractive stranger’s digits.

By looking for and taking on small challenges daily, you train yourself to do things you’re scared of. Over time, you become immune to such things because your self-confidence has already grown to the point where you’ll feel confident about taking on any challenge that life may throw your way.

4. Think of and Write Down at Least Five Ideas Daily

Without ideas, you won’t be able to have anything to make yourself better and consequently, improve your life. It’s because ideas have the potential to generate solutions to your longest-standing problems or challenges.

But generating ideas is like running. The more you exercise your brain, which is your idea-generating muscle, the better you’ll get at it.

You can do this by making it a habit to generate and write down at least five new ideas daily. They don’t have to address the same concerns or have to be about the same topic.

Add it to your daily to-do list, but don’t overthink it. Just focus on training your mind to come up with ideas, and soon, it won’t be half as hard.

Over time, generating ideas will become second nature to you. And when you need ideas to help you solve a problem, later on, don’t be surprised to find how easy it is for you to do that.

5. Read at Least Four New “Best Self Improvement Books” on the Market Every Year

Reading books is one of the best ways to continuously improve one’s self and ultimately, change one’s life. Why?

For one, you can read self-improvement books whenever and wherever you want to. You can read them while commuting to work, lying in bed on a lazy Sunday morning, or while waiting to board an airplane.

Second, the information you get from books is something you can always go back to for reference. You can highlight them and write on them.

By doing so, you’re not under pressure to memorize with perfect recall all the important lessons or ideas the books presented.

Personal growth isn’t just about making radical changes and life-altering decisions — even a task as simple and enjoyable as reading a book can contribute immensely to your self improvement.

6. Have Sex

Sexual intercourse triggers the body to release two of the most potent happy hormones: oxytocin and endorphins. More happy hormones equal feeling happiness more often, which means having a better ability to combat stress, negative emotions, and the pressures of life.

Sexual intercourse also helps reduce inflammation. It also helps improve one’s cardiovascular health, too.

Changing your life requires changing yourself – for the better. Self-improvement makes you a better person who can live a better life, which is why you should make it a consistent habit.
